About Me

IMG_5346_edited.jpg

I have had a love for singing for as long as I could remember. My family tells stories of me singing incessantly as soon as I could talk. It was obvious that I needed an outlet for all my enthusiasm for singing.

As a young singer, I had so many mentors and teachers that not only shaped my voice but who I was as a person. Through voice lessons, I began to learn new parts of myself: how I think, communicate, and learn.

At Baylor, I began my study of the anatomy and physiology of the voice. In my own voice lessons, I was always curious about how the voice functions. So, on top of my theatre studies, I started taking some Vocal Pedagogy and Speech-Language Pathology classes. The science behind the art was fascinating to me. I started teaching a few voice lessons and realized that I had found my passion.

At Shenandoah, I was able to concentrate my studies even further. Teaching became more than just understanding how the voice functions. I began to appreciate the complexity of the act of learning a new skill.

Singing is a physical and psychological act.

In my own performances, I would often be critical of each small mistake. But in my teaching, I have realized that those mistakes help us learn, grow, and discover new sounds. It's how our brain works! To me, the best part of teaching is helping students find compassion toward themselves and their voices.

Great artists tell stories through their music. With a background in theatre, I help my students find emotional connections to their music and tell their story.

When I am not working with my private students, I am teaching the theatre students at Baylor University!
